Presentation Is Underrated

I have a story to tell you in hopes to get you to understand how you can improve your career as well as your personal life.

My husband is the chef in our family. He cooks most of the meals and I’m forever appreciative of that. Since I’ve been working from home, Grant (that’s my husband) would come in and leave me a snack. An apple and some peanut butter. I’m appreciative of that in general but there’s more. Rather than just giving me the apple and peanut butter, he cuts the apple and displays it out in a windmill shape with the peanut butter in a ramekin in the center. This probably took him an extra 45 seconds to complete but the thoughtful gesture, and more importantly the PRESENTATION made the gesture more appreciated. In a year of monotony, those simple extra steps really did make all the difference.

After this happened a few times it got me thinking about my presentation.  When I’m done with a project or ready to send it over to a client, how can I give it one last look over and enhance the PRESENTATION of the content just a little more? It doesn’t need to be over the top but what can I add to provide that similar gesture? How can I add that extra ribbon or that extra flare to it to provide that client with a sense of relief that they made the right decision in working with us?

From an L&D perspective, we need to be thinking this way with all our programs. Now I don’t mean spending tons of time and money to get the presentation “just right” but I do think it’s important to take a note out of a marketing expert’s book. After all, it’s our job to get people to retain the information we are providing. Marketing experts are great at that. If you have a marketing department, team up with them and see how they enhance the presentation to be more memorable, to stick. Don’t have a marketing department, check out Canva. They have some amazing templates to improve any presentation. Or reach out to us! We’d be glad to help.
