Learning and Development teams and business owners alike, we’re begging you! Correlate the company’s business needs with your learning and development programs! Every time we’ve asked an L&D person what their company goals are and what issues the business is currently dealing with, more often than not I’m provided information that is less than murky. Increasing revenue isn’t a goal we can work with. We need to understand where you’re currently at, where you want to be and what changes you plan on making to get there. Don’t know the changes? Let’s dive in further. What currently isn’t working? Better yet, what IS working that you’d like to strengthen further?
Change is happening around us so quickly due to technology (see graphic below). So quickly in fact that humans aren’t able to keep up. We need to find common grounds and continuously provide learning opportunities to ensure your people are growing together, at as similar a pace as possible for your industry and your company’s abilities.

So, go ask your leadership team what their biggest pain points are this year and what progress would look like in that area. But don’t stop when they give you they’re off the cuff answer. Keep pushing until you have something that is truly measurable. You want to increase your revenue from $20 Million to $30 Million in two years by charting a new sector or territory. Excellent. That’s something we can work with in L&D.
Don’t have an L&D department to help you with this? Give us a call. If we can’t help you, we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction.
We feel more confident than ever before that L&D is needed in most companies and industries right now due to the immense change happening all around us. If you aren’t spending the money being proactive, we can almost promise you you’re spending the money reactively.
