Learning and Development is baked into every aspect of the employee lifecycle. I’d dare to say if you aren’t teaching during the recruiting process, you might not be doing it right. Check out this roadmap of learning and development opportunities and think about what area you might be able to boost to ensure your employees are learning at their best.
**I don’t remember who gave me this roadmap so please feel free to let me know if it was you so I can give credit where it’s due!
Here are a few ideas to get you thinking!
Getting the Best and Being the Best
- Recruitment – Provide interviewees with a video/article/podcast prior to their interview to share information about the company
- Onboarding – Schedule out a new employee’s first few days or weeks to provide opportunities to meet seasoned employees and learn about the company, the technology used and the processes in place.
Doing the Best
- Ongoing Feedback – Please for the love of learning, give your employees feedback!
- Individual Development Planning – Between 3 – 6 months, work with the individual on areas they are hoping to learn as well as areas you’d like them to grow. WRITE IT DOWN and create SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) goals.
Growing the Best
- On-The-Job Learning – Opportunities to learn in the flow of work. This could include creating a how-to video on utilizing a piece of equipment and putting a QR code there for employees to view beforehand.
- Online/Classroom Learning – This one speaks for itself!
Keeping the Best
- Health & Wellness – Offer a mental health workshop and provide benefits for your employees on this as well! Same goes for financial wellness and nutritional wellness!
- Talent Management – Reviewing company wide growth initiatives and strategies to see how your current employees can fit into the future goals of the organization and what gaps might exist to train them on.
